Aces ‘Footy Fun’
The Airdrie Aces were very privileged this week when they had the opportunity, on Tuesday 13th April, to try out the new 5 a side pitches surrounding the stadium. About 15 boys and girls, of various ages, took part in the Aces first ever ‘Football Fun’ coaching session on pitches 4 and 5.
The Aces started arriving for a 10.45am start, after an early rise and a light breakfast, and raring to go! After all the introductions, the session began with some fun warm up games and familiarisation of the ball. It was evident from this point onwards that the standard was going to be high with the close control and tricks on show!
Following a short water break, the Aces had time to practice their skills during a variety of relays and drills focussing on dibbling and passing.
Now it was time to put these skills into action! During the small sided game the action swayed from end to end. The game was played a ferocious pace. It was a high scoring game with plenty of goals being scored; some of them were fabulous strikes into the bargain!
Next, the older Aces stayed on pitch 4 to carry out some shooting drills. Meanwhile, the younger Aces moved to pitch 5 to play some 2 v 2 games.
As the 12 o’clock deadline approached, the Aces went through their cool down and the session drew to a close. With some disappointment that the day had come to an end, the children made their way from the pitches to be collected. One child asking “Can we do that again tomorrow?”
There was plenty of talent on show but I think it is safe to say, and most importantly, all of the children there had a great time.
The Trust would like to extend their thanks to Liam Brindle and the Airdrie Football Centre for free use of the pitches. You helped to make it a great day for all the Aces present!
